Confirming Authenticity

How to confirm AUTHENTICITY:

Although many Quaker Lace tablecloths may have lost the identifying tags, packaging or marketing materials, pattern identification can still be done through My Quaker Lace and navigating to the "patents" tab (if you are registered) or to the "Collections" tab if you are not registered.

To confirm authenticity, quality and heritage, look for the original sewn-in identification tag, which often includes the original pattern number (such as the famous #6280 White House or #7100 Duchess) and survives on the outer hem of these heirloom pieces (long-side). Also remember to check for the characteristic soft, opulent feel of the high-quality cotton or cotton-blend fabric

As this is a vintage textile, always verify the specific dimensions and condition—such as the presence of original labels or minor age-related wear—prior to purchase.

For the most accurate description, verify the pattern number found on the tag sewn into the long-side hem of the cloth (or declared in the listings description) with the pattern description found on the box (if there is one). There may also be identifying paper tags attached to a cloth with the pattern’s name and patent number on them. Make sure these additional attachments also match the cloth information on box (if available)

WARNING Quaker Lace tablecloths are often purchased at estate sales where they may be placed with a box that MAY NOT BE THE CORRECT BOX. Companies that facilitate estate sales can unintentionally place a tablecloth with a box that may appear to match for the purpose of influencing price.

If the original box is in good shape, the pattern number/name, color, and dimensions will be on the bottom end of the box. Sometimes the paper tag identifiers attached to the cloth will describe textile blend, patent number and a brief description.

For more specific identification, you can cross-reference this pattern and patent number at My Quaker Lace, the definitive guide for vintage Quaker textile collectors. This action will ensure you have a genuine piece of American heritage.
